Tour of the Generalate of the Christian Brothers

So, the Saint Mary's Chamber Singers are staying at Casa Lasalle.  This facility is connected to the Generalate or the "Motherhouse" of the Christian Brothers.  The group was given a nice tour of the main facility.  Here are a few pics from the tour.

A model of the Generalate, which is in the main entrance of the facility

A very famous painting of Saint John Baptist de Lasalle.  This is the
original that hangs in a chapel inside the Generalate

A portrait in the Generalate of Brother John Johnston, a former Superior
General of the Christian Brothers and a Saint Mary's University of
               Minnesota alum

Brekke, and Heather Hurner gather for a photo

  1. The tour was a great experience - something that very few visitors to Rome are able to do. I was particularly moved by the depth of history of the Brothers that is represented at the Generalate. The facility itself only dates fro 1937, but the rich history of over three centuries is reflected in so many ways - from the small De La Salle museum, to the many mementos from Lasallian schools all over the globe, to the relics of the saint himself, preserved in the beautiful chapel.

Thanks are due to Br. John Guasconi, Director of the Generalate, for taking the time to explain so thoroughly the richness and significance of the institute's world headquarters.
